This national celebration of Volunteers' Week takes place every year during the first week of June, honouring the incredible impact volunteers have on their communities. It's a perfect moment to recognise, celebrate, and thank those who give their time so generously.
To mark the occasion, we’re highlighting the amazing volunteers supporting communities and charities across Bath & North East Somerset. To champion their contributions and show our appreciation, 3SG has spoken with several local volunteers to share their inspiring stories. Across the week June 1st - 5th, we’ll be featuring a few local volunteers and the differences they make.
On behalf of all charities, community groups, and third sector organisations across Bath & North East Somerset, we extend a heartfelt thank you to every volunteer. By sharing these stories, we hope to not only celebrate your efforts but also inspire others to get involved.
CLAIRE
As part of our Volunteers' Week series shining a light on the incredible people making a difference in B&NES, today we are celebrating Claire!
Claire has a background in education and care, but she is currently on an exciting journey changing her career to work in events. To gain hands-on experience, she has been volunteering with the Climate Hub, throwing herself into a fantastic range of local projects - from Sustainable Fashion Week and Christmas wreath-making to nursery events and 'Craftivisms'.
Claire is deeply passionate about creating positive change and has used volunteering not only to do good but to build her own skills and confidence. She also shares some wonderfully honest, relatable advice on how to balance volunteering with a busy life and the importance of setting healthy boundaries!
"I am passionate about changing the world for the better. I have worked in education and care and am now changing career to work in events. I have been volunteering with the Climate Hub to gain events experience."
What inspired you to start volunteering?
"To do good and gain experience."
What have you learnt from your experiences?
"I have gained relevant experience and developed more confidence."
How do you balance volunteering with other responsibilities?
"It's hard! I enjoy the volunteering but I do need to rein myself in at times."
What would you say to someone thinking about volunteering?
"Choose somewhere you are passionate about! But be clear about your boundaries, because it can be easy to give more than is healthy for a balanced life."
What is your favourite thing about your current volunteer role, or volunteering generally?
"Feeling like I am creating positive change."
