Meeting Members, Partners and Changemakers: A Week on the Road with David

Despite his official social prescribing role coming to an end, it is great to see David busy and engaged in his role with 3SG. Last week saw David attend numerous activities and workshops across the region. Some of the activities are referenced below.
On Monday, David represented 3SG at the Impact Alliance enabler workshop Redcatch Community Garden, with the title being ‘Futures Creating’. It was a great workshop to envisage the IA’s work in a blue sky thinking sort of way but also embracing some of the current challenges that we are all facing. It was also great to be outside, albeit under a wooden gazebo, for a nice change of location to your typical office space.
On Wednesday it was a trip to The Hive in Peasedown St John, for the Welcome Community Network steering group. It was great to meet and welcome some new members, and to also celebrate the success of the Better Connections event in June which was held at the Guildhall in Bath. There’s been some great feedback from the event, and this will help to shape future events. The group is also looking to secure some funding to help manage the network.
On Thursday, it was off the Harptree Surgery, in West Harptree, to meet Lisa the Social Prescribing Link Worker (SPLW) for the surgery. We met in the Paddock (pics below) which is an area Lisa has created for staff and patients to get away from the traditional clinical spaces. Lisa holds meetings with patients, runs wellbeing workshops through the Wellbeing Courses, and generally brings people together. The Paddock was created through collective efforts from the local community which of course includes patients attending the surgery. Great work Lisa, this is an amazing example of innovations In practice that can make a huge positive difference.
On Friday morning, it was off to Dorothy House for a Compassionate Mentors Scoping workshop ran by Clarasys. This was an extension of the compassionate communities programme David had previously gone through. It was an interactive and engaging workshops with Clarasys helping to provide direction for our future work through journey mapping. There was a recognition that communities have strengths to give in End of Life and Palliative Care, and when complemented with the existing structure support our communities will be stronger together.
The week finished off with a visit to our most recent changemaker, Wildplunge. Despite the meeting taking part in the sauna there was lots of worthwhile discussions. We agreed that our first event would be held in September inviting regular sauna goers, with those who have/ will benefit from the recently launched ‘pay if forward’ scheme. Please visit Wildplunge’s community page on their website. David was also lucky enough to have a sneak peek of the trailer which is undertaking a transformation into a mobile sauna. For any members, with land and/or space, thinking of diversifying their income streams, there could be a possible partnership.
