About the Event
This three-part course is designed to support people working in health, care and community organisations to consider their approach to bereavement. The course references grief theory, different models and approaches and NICE guidelines.
Session 1 - 9th May, 3-5pm
Our own experiences, advent of bereavement support – bio medical model evolution, dominance of what is wrong – focus on few. What other models tell us sociological perspectives, connecting – how society has changed (expression or not) – types of bereavement support – letting go v holding on.
Session 2 - 16th May, 3-5pm
What we know about who uses bereavement support, how these have developed – why not appropriate – dominance of white, female voices in research and evidence, expression valued. Psychological interventions ‘treatment’ – what happens in other cultures, value of compassion and connection with deceased.
Session 3 - 23rd May, 3-5pm
What is our starting position, wrong or strong? Narrative – value of connection. Linking in with others, value of connection - sharing. Understanding from their perspective, understanding our own perspective.
