The event offers an opportunity to be directly involved in the national work and the BSW Academy are looking to attract a wide and varied audience . Which includes you the VCSE.

The event is planned for the 05th July 2023– lunch and refreshments will be provided. Please arrive at 09:30 for registration/networking, the workshop will start promptly at 10:00 and close at 15.00.

Venue Details:  Hartham Park, Corsham, Wiltshire SN13 0RP. Free parking is available on-site.

Who should attend: We want to attract a cross-section of people from across health and care organisations, representing different roles and different functions. We want to be as inclusive as possible, this offer is open to all and we are particularly keen to hear from new starters and new and existing managers.

We are hoping to use this fast-paced session to gather lots of information from across our system partners. The day will have a focus on staff induction/on-boarding experience and development for first time managers.

It would be very helpful if you could spend some time before the event thinking about these areas and gathering feedback from across your organisation.

For example, what happens now and where are the gaps?  How could we improve the induction/on-boarding and development experience?  Are there particular groups that need targeted support? Where is there great practice that we could share?

Aims and outcomes of the session are:

  • To share an overview of the Messenger review findings/implementation in relation to induction/onboarding and first-time managers
  • To share the local context in relation to leaver data, particularly early leavers, and the importance of effective induction as a retention tool
  • To process map induction and on-boarding, from job offer to 90 days post start date.
  • To discuss retention and the development of first time managers
  • To identify and share areas of best practice from across BSW
  • To highlight gaps or areas where the current practice isn’t meeting the needs of new starters and first time managers or where particular staff groups need something additional, and then:
    • Identify where there are opportunities for NHSE National Team to support BSW with researching best practice or developing national resources that can be applied locally to address identified gaps.
    • Identify where there is opportunity in BSW to collaborate on improvements/innovation that could have the greatest impact locally in addressing identified gaps.
  • Agree the next steps and timeframes.
