About the Event

Community projects and charities can help people and communities live healthier lives by connecting people with physical activities, promoting healthier lifestyles, and creating local support networks. Join us to hear different approaches our grant holders have used to build health in their neighbourhoods, engaging communities in supporting each other’s health and wellbeing. Listen to the debate on how these approaches could work in other areas and what else could be done to build healthy neighbourhoods. Our panel comprises of:

  • Daniel Allen, Director and Communities Lead for Sports Key CIC: A Birmingham-based charity that utilises physical activity to build health and local cohesion; particularly for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Adam Downey, Project Coordinator for Marauder’s Men’s Health: Promotes and supports men’s wellbeing and mental health within the South Wales region through walk and talk groups and awareness raising events.
  • Sonya Johnson, Chief Officer for Nuneaton and Bedworth Healthy Living Network: Runs a 'Social Supermarket' where healthy surplus food is made available to the community to reduce poverty and diet related ill health in Nuneaton and Bedworth.
  • Gordon Knott, CEO of Croydon Drop In: Provides a drop in Talkbus that visits schools, colleges, estates, leisure centres and parks, offering emotional well-being support, information, advice and guidance to young people.
