Responsible to: Chair of Trustees

Responsible for: Deputy Club Leader and Club volunteers

Hours: 12 hours per week (term time only, Monday and Wednesday evenings)

Pay: £9,360 per annum actual salary for 12 hours per week, equivalent to £15 per hour and £29,250 full-time equivalent based on a 37.5-hour week.

Annual Leave: 25 days plus bank holidays (pro rata), to be taken during school holidays

The Club Leader will help members take part in safe, inclusive and enjoyable activities that build confidence, independence and social connection. The role combines hands-on session leadership with volunteer coordination, activity planning and communication with families, carers, venues and community partners.

About us

Bath Gateway Out & About provides a wide range of fun, life-enriching social and leisure activities for adults with learning disabilities and additional needs in Bath. These activities make a real difference to our members’ lives by increasing confidence, social skills and independence. You will be working in a small charity with support from the trustee committee.

The Role

Bath Gateway Out & About is looking for a part-time Club Leader to plan, organise and lead twice-weekly social and leisure sessions for adults with a wide range of learning disabilities.

This role is central to creating welcoming, safe and enjoyable experiences for our members. You will work closely with volunteers, who are instrumental to the success of the charity, and help recruit, support and develop the team. Building positive relationships across the Bath community is also important to ensuring our sessions are engaging, rewarding and good value for money.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and lived experiences. You do not need previous experience in a learning-disability setting, but you should feel confident supporting vulnerable people, working collaboratively with volunteers, and communicating with a wide range of community partners and venues.

We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive and able to build strong, respectful working relationships with trustees, volunteers and members. You should be comfortable engaging with local organisations and representatives who help us deliver weekly activities.

You will be responsible for

· Lead twice-weekly club sessions for members.

· Run and attend additional ad hoc fundraising events and day trips.

· Plan and organise a programme of suitable activities, including weekly and ad hoc activities, in line with the aims and objectives of BGOA. This will include local community-based activities within the programme and promoting positive inclusion wherever possible.

· Oversee the team of volunteers, guiding and supporting them to help with session delivery and to engage members in session activities.

· With the support of club volunteers co-ordinate the setting up and clearing away of equipment/ materials for club sessions and the activities involved.

· Collect appropriate photos, stories and updates for the charity’s social channels and website, in line with consent and safeguarding requirements.

· Establish and maintain effective communication with parents, carers, volunteers, members, and other community groups.

· Ensure the health, safety and welfare of everyone attending club sessions by creating and maintaining a clean, safe and hazard-free environment.

· Complete and review risk assessments for activities and individual members where required.

Person specification

· Experience of working or volunteering with people with learning disabilities, or a clear motivation to learn and develop in this area.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

· Organisational skills

· Ability to work to a budget

· Experience of working with or managing volunteers

· Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety, Risk Assessments and Safeguarding or a willingness to undergo training

· Ability and willingness to travel in and around the Bath area

Location

Bath and surrounding areas* with home working outside of club evenings hours: 12 hours per week (including term‑time Monday and Wednesday evenings, 6:30pm–9pm for club nights, with the remaining hours for planning and administration).

*Because our activities take place across Bath and wider B&NES area, you will need to live in or near Bath.
