The key purpose of the Somer Valley Rediscovered (SVR) Partnership is to facilitate and improve partnership working across the Cam and Wellow catchments. The main aims of the Partnership are to better connect and improve wildlife, improve the health and resilience of our water networks, enhance the local heritage and increase people’s health and wellbeing through connections to the natural environment.
The Partnership is entering an exciting stage; with a focus on co-developing a comprehensive programme of work to enable our ambitions to be realised and move into delivering benefits for people and nature at scale. Over the next two years the Partnership will take an evidence-led approach to collectively identifying priority partnership projects. We will work together to unlock the investment required to deliver the nature-based, climate resilient solutions to start tackling the climate and ecological emergencies at a local level.
The Chair will represent the Partnership at a strategic, delivery and community level, helping to make connections and seeking new opportunities to expand the work of the Partnership. The Chair will represent the Partnership as required, and may be required to attend various meetings, workshops and site visits, provide independent steer and chair the quarterly Partnership meetings.
The Chair is a person who;
- has good communication and energising skills
- feels comfortable leading and steering a partnership
- is aware of the current environmental, social and economic issues within the Somer Valley
- is non-partisan, politically aware and diplomatic
- can work with and support the Partnership, having excellent interpersonal skills
- has a passion for the Somer Valley area with experience in a relevant area of interest – (e.g. landscape/heritage/health and wellbeing/environment/business, etc) and is able to positively influence and
advocate for the Partnership’s core vision and aims
- is flexible and available to attend some daytime meetings and evening/weekend events if required
- is able to Chair meetings with a diverse membership
The role requires a commitment to serve a 2-year term, requiring approximately 1 day per month. This is a voluntary role, however we can offer reasonable expenses for travel and subsistence.
