Trustee, Climate Hub (charity no.1201216)

“Community-led action for climate and nature”

Unpaid

Location: a mix of remote and in-person working. In-person attendance at board meetings is preferred.

Role purpose

We are at a vital stage of our journey as we seek significant, longer-term funding to sustain and grow our work and freelance team. The Trustee Board plays a key role in achieving this goal and our vision for community-led action on climate and nature in Bath and beyond.

We are looking to recruit 1 or 2 additional trustees to bring their vision, skills and experience to our team - to actively participate and contribute to our Board through monthly trustee meetings and additional ad hoc advice, guidance and involvement, dependent on skills, interests and capacity.

Time commitment:

Monthly - prepare for and attend monthly trustee meetings (c. 4 hours), and in addition, the AGM

Weekly -  review emails and actions (c. 1 hour), plus ad hoc engagement in strategy days, sub-group and planning meetings as appropriate (variable dependent on specific role)

Additional - trustees may choose to be involved in additional activities such as event planning and participation, fundraising, developing our online offer, and volunteering input.

As a minimum this equates to around 6-8 hours per month

What is Climate Hub?

We are a local charity with a mission to create safe, inclusive spaces, both physical and online, where local communities, organisations, and individuals can connect, collaborate, and take meaningful action for nature, climate, and people.

We seek to:

  • Raise awareness and provide knowledge about the climate and nature crises

  • Encourage positive actions to reduce carbon emissions at the personal, city, and national levels, and to restore nature and biodiversity.

  • Support resilience and amplify voices to help break down barriers to action and foster a network of empowered communities.

We do this by collaborating with other voluntary and community organisations across Bath & NES and beyond, both from our physical space in the old ticket office at Bath bus station and virtually via our website and social media.

Expectations of trustees

Trustees are usually appointed for a 3-year term of office.  In some circumstances, we may consider a shorter time period.

Our trustees oversee the charity's overall management and administration. They ensure we have a clear strategy and that our work and goals align with our vision. Just as importantly, they provide the right balance of scrutiny and support to the team, enabling Climate Hub to grow and thrive.

What skills and qualities are we looking for?

Important skills for the role include problem-solving,  creative and  independent thinking and judgement, the ability to work collaboratively and constructively as part of a team.

Qualities needed include energy, enthusiasm, a strong personal commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and a passion for communicating positively with the public about the climate and nature crises.

We are particularly interested in hearing from potential trustees with skills, knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Fundraising and funding stream development - grants / sponsorship / personal / events

  • Social media and digital technology - website / social media development / digital operations

  • Engagement and collaboration with partners across public, voluntary and business / private sectors

  • Experience in education / educational organisations across any /all ages and levels

What do we offer in return?

The opportunity to

  • Impact how we connect with and support our communities to engage positively with the climate and nature crises

  • Bring your vision, skills and experience to a passionate team of trustees

  • Access training as required

  • Gain experience in the oversight and development of a local organisation with big ambitions
