Voices of Aphasia is a charity delivering specialist accessible choirs for people affected by aphasia, communication difficulties after stroke or acquired brain injury. People with aphasia can have difficulty speaking but can often still sing fluently. Singing, particularly in a group, can help improve people’s mood and emotional well-being. We hope to continue to connect and support people with aphasia and their carers, especially for those who might not be able to access other singing groups and choirs.
Our charity was registered in 2023, and our founding Trustees were all members of the Bath Aphasia Choir, who have supported us brilliantly in starting and building the strong foundations of our charity. Some founding Trustees are now coming to the end of their first terms, and we are looking to recruit new Trustees to help guide the next phase of our development, with some exciting opportunities for growth already underway.
We welcome applications from people with relevant personal and professional experience, who support our mission to raise the voices of people with aphasia through the power of music and singing, with a focus on co-production, inclusivity and a commitment to the social model of disability.
We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience in:
- Finance management and strategy
- Fundraising (all areas including Trusts & Foundations, Individual Giving and Community Fundraising)
- Health and social care sector management
However, we warmly welcome applications from anyone with an interest in aphasia, music therapy, stroke and acquired brain injury rehabilitation.
Please see more information about our work at www.voicesofaphasia.com, and please contact us if you would like to see our first annual report/accounts or discuss anything relating to your application.
