Samaritans Bath and District

Brief Description of Organisation

Bath Samaritans is part of the national organisation which provides a safe, confidential space for people to talk when they are struggling to cope. Our volunteers come from parts of Somerset and Wiltshire as well as the Bath Area and we seek more people to join us in our Lower Weston offices.

Full Description of Organisation

Bath & District Samaritans are  keen to welcome new volunteers  from all backgrounds, ages, and abilities to our enthusiastic and friendly volunteer community.  While some of our volunteers live in and around Bath, others  travel in from the surrounding areas of Frome, Devizes, Melksham, Trowbridge, Radstock, Westbury and many of the outlying villages.  We work from offices in the former Windsor Castle, opposite Tesco in Upper Bristol Road.   We ask you to work one three hour shift a week, including one night shift a month (between the hours of 12.30 -3.30 or 3.30-6.30a.m).  You will always have the company of a fellow volunteer, with support at all times from team leaders.

Samaritans don’t provide answers or try to fix things. We listen to our  callers without passing judgement or providing advice.   Sometimes a quiet listening ear is a huge help to people struggling with what life throws at them.  The training and ongoing support are recognised as excellent.  There is absolutely no pressure, but if you’d like to find our more,  have a look at our website :-

If you decide to apply, you will be invited to attend one of our  monthly Finding out More events on zoom or face to face. These popular events enable your to meet and question experienced volunteers.  You will be able to find out about  the work we do to support our callers and each other, shift patterns,  what our training involves and the ongoing support offered, giving you the opportunity to make an informed decision as to whether you wish your application to proceed to the interview stage.   There is absolutely no pressure, but if you are considering joining us, we would be delighted to hear from you.
